The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) Commemorates Bahraini Women’s Day

In conjunction with Bahraini Women’s Day, which falls on the 1st of December and in assistance to the efforts of the Supreme Council for Women for the progression of Bahraini women, under the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim AlKhalifa, wife of His Majesty the King, the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) celebrated its female employees in recognition of their valuable contributions and endless endeavors in advancing the company’s development. The event included various interactive workshops in the creative sphere with the aim of nurturing a sense of innovation and inspiration in the participants. Moreover, a luncheon was held in their honor, with the attendance of the ASRY Executive Management.

ASRY is proud to have over 50 women amongst its specialized workforce who occupy various fields such as administrative, technical, and engineering positions. In addition, ASRY is proud to also have women who occupy distinguished specializations such as professional diving, in which the company employed the first Bahraini woman working in this industrial field in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In particular, ASRY places great importance on habitually training the female engineers to qualify them to occupy the positions of project managers. Moreover, six women currently hold important leadership positions in the company, most notably the position of Deputy CEO.

The company continuously aims to hone the skills of its female workers and enrich their experience by providing specialized training and development programs, allowing for equal opportunities for both genders in all fields to achieve excellence and enhance the culture of diversity and inclusion in the company. In addition, the company also implemented an on-the-job training program, which in turn aims to provide training opportunities for Bahraini youth to gain experience and develop their skills in various fields to efficiently prepare them to enter the labor market. Through this program, 21 Bahraini female graduates were successfully trained on the job.

ASRY Managing Director, Mr. Mazen Matar, commented: “ASRY always seeks to create a supportive and enabling work environment for women’s empowerment with the aim of enhancing their contributions to the company’s development and progress, as it reflects ASRY’s vision for sustainable growth.” He continued, "The year 2023 witnessed a qualitative leap in the history of the company, during which we enriched our national cadre by recruiting a number of distinguished female competencies to join the ASRY workforce, as well as making comprehensive changes in our management, through which many of them were promoted to occupy important leadership positions in the company."

He also expressed his appreciation and pride towards all the women in ASRY for their dedication, praising their distinguished efforts and prominent role in pushing the company towards success. Following this, ASRY Deputy CEO, Ms. Sahar Ataaei commented: “The first of December is an important national occasion that celebrates the achievement of Bahraini women in all fields. ASRY has always been keen to dedicate this day to highlighting the achievements made by the company’s female employees in various fields and levels, considering them an integral part of ASRY’s progress and growth.”

She added: “ASRY always seeks to create a work environment that advocates for women’s empowerment and aims to enhance their contributions in various fields of work. The company has been able to engage many distinguished female competencies in all departments and divisions, who have strengthened their role as a pivotal partner in ASRY’s journey to sustainable development.”
